6 Music superstar, Prince, a Minnesota pop culture icon, died on April 21, 2016, because of an accidental overdose of fentanyl. He thought he was taking Vicodin, but it was a fake medicine laced with fentanyl. After two years, the investigation was closed saying there is not enough evidence to continue to pursue the crime.

The musician thought he was taking the painkiller Vicodin, not knowing that it was fake and had fentanyl in it. Fentanyl is an opioid 50 times stronger than heroin.

The two-year-long investigation into his death showed that he was taking fake Vicodin and was getting addicted to fentanyl. Nobody, including him, was aware of the intake of this synthetic drug until it was too late.

There was no evidence that the pill found in his home was prescribed by a doctor. There was also no reliable evidence as to who was delivering these pills to him.

He was experiencing a lot of pain, and as a private person, did not wish anybody knew that the narcotics were prescribed in his name. Even with the high-profile nature of the case, there was no evidence of any malicious intent, and the innuendos circulating around were not sufficient to charge anyone. (1, 2)

The hip-hop artist was on his way to a Las Vegas club when he was shot four times. The gunman who shot him appeared in a white Cadillac and is still unknown.

It remains an unsolved homicide case. The first investigation pointed the killing to a gang called the “Southside Crips” from California as Shakur was associated with another street gang that regularly battled with the Southside Crips.

He also had a feud with fellow rapper Christopher Wallace who also died in a shooting only six months after Shakur’s death.

There were rumors that the rapper had provided a gun to a gang asking them to kill Shakur because of gang fights that had happened in the past. Even though there were many allegations, nothing helped find the gang behind the murder. (1, 2)
