Khalid bin Mohsen Shaari Set a Record by Shedding 542 kg
At 17 years old, while most teenagers were enjoying their youth, Khaled Mohsen Al Shaeri faced a different realityâhe was confined to his bed, unable to move due to his immense weight. Tipping the scales at 609 kg, the Saudi Arabian teenager had been in this state for three years, earning the title of “The World’s Heaviest Teen.” His condition became so severe that he had to be cut out of his home and transported to a hospital for urgent medical care.
As reported by The Sun, Shaeriâs rescue was personally ordered by the late King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, who was deeply moved by the young man’s situation.
The operation to extract him from his home involved a team of 30 medical and civil defense personnel.
Shaeri was lifted by a forklift and taken out of his house before being flown by an airplane to King Fahd Medical City in Riyadh.
At the medical facility, Shaeri began a transformative journey, shedding over half of his body weightâ546 kgâin just six months.
This incredible achievement was made possible through a rigorous plan that included a customized diet and an intensive fitness program. Initially, Shaeri used a specially designed wheelchair to help him begin moving again.
Dr. Aaied al-Qahtani, the leader of Shaeriâs medical team, shared with Sayidaty magazine in 2014 that Shaeri’s health had significantly improved since the start of his weight loss journey. He experienced better heart and lung function, increased muscle strength, and a notable reduction in inflammation.
Shaeri documented his remarkable progress, sharing video clips in 2016 that showed him walking with the help of a Zimmer frame. By 2018, he had undergone surgery to remove excess skin resulting from his dramatic weight loss.
Today, at 29 years old, Shaeri is almost unrecognizable from the teenager he once was. Now reportedly weighing 63 kg, his transformation is nothing short of extraordinary.
