Had it not been for Stephen King's wife, Tabitha King, his first novel may never have been published. She rescued the crumpled pages of Carrie from the trash can, read it, and told her husband that she wanted to know what happened next. Inspired by this, Stephen King completed the novel and had it published in 1974.
