Many consider it a joke although others are scared we might never live to see next year,
A lot of things happened this year about this fear of 21 December 2012 apocalypse, so i would like to remind you all the facts that we have collected in my past few month research, some of them we have already posted it on our tumblr blog.
They believed that when apocalypse strikes on 21 December 2012, the aliens waiting in their spacecraft inside Pic de Bugarach will save all the humans near by and beam them off to the next age.(source)
The 2012 Zombie Apocalypse will start with scientists reverse engineering fungus that Zombifies Ants.
The fungus, a species of Ophiocordyceps, targets carpenter ants living high in Thailand’s rain forest canopy. The parasite hijacks the ants’ nervous systems, causing the insects to perform abnormal—and oddly specific—behaviors that help the fungus reproduce.(source)
In ‘The X-Files’, aliens begin their colonization of Earth on December 22nd, 2012.
The Colonists planned on returning to Earth in the year 2012, as The Smoking Man (William B. Davis) later remarks to Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) that the ancient Mayans were so terrified that they stopped their calendar on the exact date of colonization: December 22, 2012.(source)
CDC, Center for disease control and prevention, has a zombie survival kit which has everything to help people survive the zombie apocalypse.
A group of millionaires in Kansas are building a “Doomsday Hotel” to survive any future apocalypse.
When you buy a house, you end up feeling like you will be paying it off until the world ends. Well, how about one of these luxurious condos, which come with all the mod-cons, as well as a pool, a movie theater and a library – oh, and a guarantee that it will survive Doomsday if and when that fateful day comes.(source)
A 78 year old man has, since the 80’s, been building a doomsday shelter that can house 500 people, is heavily fortified, runs on internal generators, and has a decontamination room, a radio station, and a chapel. Also anyone is welcome free of charge.
Ark Two was featured in Beach’s interview for National Geographic’s “Doomsday Preppers”, episode 8: “It’s Gonna Get Worse”. It was also featured on the Global Television Network series “16:9” (original air date: February 25, 2012), and on the Showtime series “Penn & Teller: Bullshit!” season one episode four: “End of the World”.(source)
Humanity has been attempting to predict the apocalypse since 2800 B.C.
According to Isaac Asimov’s Book of Facts (1979), an Assyrian clay tablet dating to approximately 2800 BC was unearthed bearing the words “Our earth is degenerate in these latter days. There are signs that the world is speedily coming to an end. Bribery and corruption are common.” This is one of the earliest examples of the perception of moral decay in society being interpreted as a sign of the imminent end.(source)
No apocalypse on 21 December 2012 — Another Mayan calendar has been found.
Apparently the calendar projects some 7,000 years into the future, which gives us all a little more time. Experts say that the discovery means that December 21, 2012 simply marks the beginning of a new calendar cycle and not an apocalypse.(source)
An asteroid is on course to pass in between the earth in the moon and has a chance to hit satellites and possibly even Earth itself in February 2013
A newly discovered asteroid called 2012 DA14 will pass so close to Earth in February that it might hit a communications satellite, scientists say.
“That’s very unlikely, but we can’t rule it out,” said Paul Chodas, a planetary astronomer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California.
Discovered several weeks ago by astronomers at the LaSagra Observatory in Spain, the asteroid is currently “a fuzzy little blob,” as seen through telescopes, said Steven Chesley, also at JPL.(source)
Here is last one i kept it to reveal at end of the post.
The word ‘Apocalypse’ simply means ‘a revelation’. It has nothing inherently to do with the end of the world.
An apocalypse (Ancient Greek: ἀποκάλυψις apocálypsis, from ἀπό and καλύπτω meaning ‘un-covering’), translated literally from Greek, is a disclosure of knowledge, hidden from humanity in an era dominated by falsehood and misconception, i.e., a lifting of the veil or revelation, although this sense did not enter English until the 14th century.(source)
