Struggling with Knee Pain? Robotic Hiking Pants Boost Leg Strength by 40%
Arcâteryx, a well-known outdoor brand from Canada, has teamed up with the tech startup Skip to develop the MO/GO⢠robotic hiking pants. These special pants have built-in support that helps people climb uphill more easily, boosting leg strength by 40%. They are perfect for hikers, especially for those who get tired quickly or have trouble with movement.
MO/GO⢠stands for “Mountain Goat,” named after the animal known for easily climbing steep hills. The pants feature lightweight technology designed to attach to the legs, providing assistance with movement. Each leg is equipped with a 2-pound powered module, and along with the battery pack, the total weight of the pants comes to 7 pounds. Despite the weight, the pants are designed to feel comfortable and allow natural movement.
The idea for MO/GO-powered pants was developed over four years. They use battery-powered motors to make walking uphill easier and provide knee support when going downhill. A small battery gives about three hours of power and recharges when walking downhill. The exoskeleton, which fits on the legs, can be easily attached and removed as needed. You can control the pants with three buttons to choose how much help you want, and sensors adjust based on the walking surface and your steps.
The pants cost $5,000 and are part of Skipâs new “movewear” line of clothing that helps people move better. Although they are expensive, the pants can also be rented. Arcâteryx is offering demos at their Climb Academy in Squamish, British Columbia, and you can rent the pants for $80 per day in cities like Arizona, Denver and in many cities in northern and southern California, British Columbia, and Utah. More rental spots in Hawaii, Maine, Montana, Oregon, and Washington will be available soon.
MO/GO powered hiking pants are an excellent choice for anyone who loves hiking but needs extra help with uphill climbs. They are especially helpful for people with knee pain caused by aging or conditions like arthritis, making outdoor activities more accessible. The pants provide extra support and reduce strain on the legs, allowing older adults or those with mobility issues to enjoy hiking with more comfort.
