Hanako, a scarlet koi fish, is considered to be the longest-lived koi fish ever recorded. At the time of her death in 1977, Hanako was 226 years old, which is far longer than the average lifespan of her breed. Her age was scientifically proven in 1966, when two of her scales were examined extensively.
