Most dolphins are born with whiskers that fall out shortly after birth and leave behind two rows of tiny pits called vibrissal crypts. However, these aren't some useless vestigial organs. The Guiana dolphin's vibrissal crypts are surrounded by blood vessels and nerves that help them detect electric fields similar to sharks and platypuses.
