Ajanaffy Njewadda, in June 2013, broke her ankle while walking down the stairs towards the subway at Grand Central Terminal in New York City. The reason behind her injury was an advertisement poster for the popular tv series Dexter. Yes, you read that correctly.

Ajanaffy blamed the sight of a poster depicting Michael C. Hall’s serial killer character in the show covered by cellophane, for triggering panic in her, which caused her to lose balance and fall down the stairs.

She, along with her husband, filed a lawsuit against the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and Showtime network in the Bronx Supreme Court. She asserted that it was an intentional move by the showtime to create a hazardous situation for pedestrians by placing fear-generating images on the stairs.

The defendants argued that they are not obliged to protect the woman from the ad and her reaction to it was an “unforeseeable act.” The judge was convinced with the defendant’s arguments and dismissed the case based on the woman’s failure to present a convincing cause of the action. (source)
