Piplantri village in Rajasthan’s Rajsmand district is setting a worthy example for India. This village celebrates the birth of a girl by planting 111 trees. Up until 2014, it is estimated that 286,000 trees have been planted. A step in the right direction for a state that is plagued by female foeticide and a worrying sex ratio, this practice was started 9 years ago by village sarpanch(headman), Shyam Sunder Paliwal.
In addition to planting the trees, parents have to nurture the saplings till they mature. They also have to sign an affidavit promising not to marry their daughters before they turn 18, as well as to discourage the practice of foeticide. The move aims to encourage the celebration of the girl child, rather than to view her as a financial burden.(source)

Reddit user ‘leability‘ constructed a wheelchair of sorts for his goldfish that couldn’t stay upright. The ‘wheelchair’ was fashioned out of a tape or bandage, wrapped around his goldfish, and attached to a cork that acted as a floatation device. This simple act of kindness helped leability’s pet goldfish float about happily, upright and secure.(source)
